IWC WINS WATCH OF THE YEAR AWARD AT THE TEMPORIS GALA AWARDS 2018

Schaffhausen / Bucharest, 18th May 2018 – IWC Schaffhausen was presented with the Watch of the Year Award at the Temporis Gala Awards 2018. The Swiss luxury watch manufacturer received the prize for the IWC Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Years”. A highlight of the Jubilee Collection to mark the company’s 150th anniversary, this remarkable timepiece uses large numerals on rotating discs to display the hours and minutes in a digital format.

IWC began to manufacture its first pocket watches with so-called jumping numerals as early as 1884. With the IWC Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Years”, the manufacture is acknowledging the scale of this pioneering feat by bringing back this unusual method of displaying time in a mechanical watch. An undisputed highlight of the Jubilee Collection unveiled at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva in January, the timepiece is available as a pocket watch and in three wristwatch versions. They are all powered by the new IWC-manufactured 94200 calibre, using a separate barrel and wheel train to advance the display discs. “The IWC Tribute to Pallweber is a perfect example of how we continue to blend tradition and innovation at IWC, creating technical solutions that are both efficient and elegant. It is with pride that I accept the Watch of the Year Award on behalf of our whole development and design team,” explains Stefan Ihnen, Associate Director Technics at IWC.

The Gala Awards were organised for the seventh time by Temporis, a well-known Romanian watch magazine. The ceremony took place at the Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest, and was attended by VIP guests, journalists, and watch aficionados. Following the selection of 78 timepieces by a jury of industry experts and watch journalists from 13 countries, the readers of Temporis magazine cast their votes for their favourite timepieces in different categories. In the “Watch of the Year” category, the IWC Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Years” emerged as the winner among strong competition, which included many other renowned Haute Horlogerie brands.
