Following her attendance at the launch of the Ingenieur Automatic 40 in 2023, Eileen’s return highlights her continued journey as an IWC brand ambassador.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">On the opening day of Watches and Wonders Geneva, two-time Olympic champion freestyle skier and IWC brand ambassador Eileen Gu made a celebrated return. During her visit, Eileen was welcomed by CEO Chris GraingerHerr and Chief Marketing Officer Franziska Gsell who showed her around the booth. As Eileen toured the booth, she explored IWC Schaffhausen’s new Ingenieur models, including new sizes, materials, colours, and complications. The booth features minimalist architecture and design, following the Ingenieur’s principle of “Form und Technik”, enriched with black and gold elements. The black and gold are a nod to the new Ingenieurs in black ceramic and gold.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">In 2023, Eileen attended the fair as it launched the Ingenieur Automatic 40; a luxury sports watch with an integrated bracelet revisiting the emblematic design of Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, from the 1970s. Speaking about her return, Eileen shared: <i>“I attended the fair when IWC Schaffhausen launched the Ingenieur Automatic 40 two years ago, so it is exciting to be back as the brand expands the collection. The new timepieces beautifully complement it. IWC has always been about precision, innovation, and pushing boundaries. This continues to be evident in everything they do, and it really inspires me as an athlete!”&nbsp;</i></p><p style="text-align:justify;">On her wrist, she wore the new Ingenieur Automatic 35 (Ref. IW324903) with an 18-carat 5N gold 35-millimetre case and bracelet, completed with a gold-coloured dial. It impresses with highly detailed finishing. Adding texture and reflecting light beautifully, it features a combination of satin-finished and polished surfaces. Another hallmark feature is the elaborately crafted dial with a characteristic “Grid” pattern.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Reaffirming her admiration for IWC, Eileen talked with its watchmakers, gaining insights into the engineering and craftsmanship behind the latest timepieces. Her presence at Watches and Wonders Geneva further cements her close relationship with IWC Schaffhausen, which began in 2021. As a champion athlete, model, and advocate for youth empowerment, Eileen Gu embodies IWC’s ambition, precision, and pursuit of excellence.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>EILEEN GU&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Eileen represents a unique intersection of sports, fashion, and education to empowered youth and families across the globe. Eileen Gu made history at the 2022 Winter Olympics, securing two golds and a silver medal, becoming the only action sports athlete to clinch three medals in a single Olympic event. At age 18, she set the record for the youngest Olympic gold medallist in freestyle skiing. Eileen’s extraordinary feats extend beyond the Olympics; she’s the first snowsport athlete to claim three medals at both the 2021 XGames and FIS World Championships and the inaugural female freeskier to execute a double cork 1440 and unnatural double cork 1620 in competition. Eileen also currently holds the win record for any freeski athlete, male or female, with 18 FIS World Cup victories. In her FIS World Cup career, she has an astounding 67% win percentage and has podiumed in 89% of her World Cup starts.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">In recognition of her exceptional accomplishments, Eileen was named “Action Sportsperson of the Year” at the 2023 Laureus World Sports Awards. In 2022, she made the TIME100 Most Influential People List and won two ESPYs: Best Breakthrough Athlete and Best Action Sports Athlete.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Eileen is not just a champion on the slopes but also a voice for young people, particularly girls. Her advocacy for female empowerment earned her the Vogue Aurora Award in 2019. It combines the Gérald Genta-derived integrated bracelet design with a full ceramic execution for the first time. To achieve a faithful ceramic translation of the emblematic design, the watch features an innovative multi-part ceramic case construction. The model is also distinguished by a high level of detail in the finishing of its ceramic components with a combination of satin-finishing, sandblasting and polishing. The IWC-manufactured 82110 calibre with a Pellaton winding system, ceramic components and a power reserve of 60 hours is visible through the tinted sapphire glass case back.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Ceramic is extremely hard and resistant to scratches but also lighter than steel and unaffected by temperature changes. These properties make it an ideal material for use in wristwatches. IWC Schaffhausen’s ceramic expertise dates back almost four decades. In 1986, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer introduced the world’s first wristwatch with a black zirconium oxide ceramic case. Following that milestone, IWC’s engineers have continued to innovate in this field and introduced material innovations including silicon nitride, boron carbide, coloured ceramics and, most recently, the first watch cases made with a Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC).&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The <strong>Ingenieur Automatic 42 </strong>(Ref. IW338903) combines the Gérald Genta-derived integrated bracelet design with a full ceramic execution for the first time. The case ring, bezel and case back ring are all made of black zirconium oxide ceramic. Even add-on parts like the crown protection and the crown are made of this extremely hard and scratch-resistant material. Connecting to the case via its middle links, the integrated black ceramic bracelet offers perfect ergonomics. As ceramic is a particularly light material, the bracelet is highly comfortable to wear. The black dial features the characteristic “Grid” structure consisting of small lines and squares, a hallmark design feature of the IWC Ingenieur. Ensuring excellent legibility, the black hands and metal markers are filled with Super-LumiNova<sup>®</sup>.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>MULTI-PART PURE CERAMIC CASE CONSTRUCTION&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Ingenieur Automatic 42 represents a true-toproportion ceramic execution of the emblematic Ingenieur design that is as slim as possible. To achieve this, IWC opted for a pure ceramic case construction with three parts. The case ring, bezel and case back ring are all made of ceramic. As the bezel and the case back ring are secured to the case ring with functional screws, this construction also requires a titanium ring on the inside. The ring accommodates the screws from the front and the back, holds the movement and contributes to a high water resistance of 10 bar. Instead of being held by the titanium ring, the sapphire crystals on the front and the back are pressed directly into the ceramic parts. This innovative new approach makes it possible to achieve a ceramic translation where the case construction remains perfectly faithful to the original stainless steel design. Maintaining the characteristic proportions and intricate angles of the Ingenieur while ensuring structural integrity and waterproofing marks an outstanding design and engineering achievement.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A HIGH LEVEL OF DETAIL IN THE CERAMIC FINISHING&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">With a hardness value of about 1300 Vickers, zirconium oxide ceramic ranks among the hardest materials on Earth. After the sintering process, ceramic can only be processed using diamond-tipped tools. For the Ingenieur Automatic 42, IWC has pushed the boundaries in ceramic finishing. The case components are satinf inished and then treated with a smooth sand-blasting, with a delicate polishing around their edges. The bracelet links boast the same elaborate surface treatment with a combination of satin-finishing, sandblasting and polishing. This multi-stage and highly complex finishing results in a refined aesthetic, offering the perfect level of light reflection.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>PELLATON WINDING SYSTEM WITH CERAMIC COMPONENTS&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Ingenieur Automatic 42 is powered by the IWC-manufactured 82110 calibre. Its Pellaton winding system efficiently converts movements of the oscillating mass in both directions to energy for the mainspring, building up a power reserve of 60 hours. Components of the winding system that are subject to high stress are made of virtually wear-free zirconium oxide ceramic. The automatic wheel and the clicks are made of black ceramic, while the rotor bearing is made of white ceramic. The balance oscillates at a rate of 4 Hertz, ensuring precise timekeeping. This marks the first time that IWC uses its patented SPRIN-g PROTECT<sup>®</sup> shock absorber system to protect a tourbillon against shocks. The cantilever spring was completely re-designed and adapted to accommodate the IWC-manufactured 82915 calibre with a flying minute tourbillon. To reduce the mass of the movement and maximise the system’s performance, the plates, bridges and the rotor are skeletonised – also offering a better view of the complicated mechanics and the bulk metallic glass (BMG) shock absorber spring inside. This highly complex watch in a technical design features a Ceratanium<sup>®</sup> case and crown. It is fitted with a black patterned rubber strap with a Ceratanium<sup>® </sup>pin buckle.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The tourbillon is one of the most sophisticated complications in fine watchmaking. The balance wheel and pallet lever are placed inside a small cage that rotates around its axis once every minute. This constant rotation contributes to offsetting the effect of gravity on the oscillating system of the watch, thereby increasing its accuracy. Its complexity also makes the tourbillon a highly delicate and fragile mechanism. As dozens of parts have to work together in a confined space, it is particularly vulnerable to damage by shocks. With the <strong>Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber Tourbillon Skeleton XPL</strong> (Ref. IW357701), IWC’s engineering division XPL has now pushed the boundaries in fine watchmaking again. Marking a first for the brand, this highly complex watch combines the patented SPRIN-g PROTECT<sup>®</sup> shock absorber system with a tourbillon.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A BREAKTROUGH INNOVATION FROM IWC’S ENGINEERING DIVISION XPL&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">IWC Schaffhausen’s advanced engineering division XPL develops new technologies to enhance the durability of mechanical watches and expand their range of applications to extreme environments. One area of research is movement shock protection. When a watch suffers an impact, the movement can potentially be subjected to high g-forces. If a watch case impacts a hard surface, for example, accelerations can range between 300 to 1000 g. Acceleration forces generated inside the movement can reach up to 1000 g. IWC Schaffhausen’s patented SPRIN-g PROTECT<sup>®</sup> system uses a cantilever spring to cushion the movement and suspend it inside the case. In the event of an impact to the case, the movement is protected by the compressing spring system, reducing impact forces significantly. A unique crown coupling system allows the movement to move freely inside the case when the coupling is disengaged.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>RE-ENGINEERED SHOCK PROTECTION FOR THE TOURBILLON&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">To adapt the SPRIN-g PROTECT<sup>®</sup> shock absorber system to the IWC-manufactured 82915 calibre, the shape of the spring had to be redesigned. Each of the eight arms was recalculated using advanced simulation tools and adapted to the dimensions and weight of the tourbillon movement. The re-engineered shock absorber underwent comprehensive testing using advances measurement methods. During these tests, protected tourbillon movements have survived shocks in excess of 10,000 g.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>AN ADVANCED BULK METALLIC GLASS WITH ELASTIC PROPERTIES&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The key to this extraordinary performance lies in the spring’s perfect form and material execution in bulk metallic glass (BMG). The spring is designed to evenly spread shock forces across its length and width. A highly complex manufacturing process gives BMG a disordered atomic-scale structure. This amorphous microstructure makes the material significantly more elastic than conventional metals – a key requirement for a shock absorber spring. Manufacturing this material, however, represents an enormous engineering challenge. The liquid metal must be cooled down extremely rapidly so that its structure remains amorphous and does not become crystalline. Otherwise, the metal loses its advantageous properties.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>SKELETONISED MOVEMENT REDUCES THE MASS TO BE PROTECTED&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Reducing the mass to be protected is critical for the shock absorber system’s performance. For this reason, the plates, bridges and rotor of the IWC-manufactured 82915 calibre are skeletonised. The dial is reduced to a simple black ring with the characteristic triangle at 12 o’clock and minute scale. Even the triangular hands, coated with Super-LumiNova<sup>®</sup>, are skeletonised. The f lying minute tourbillon, consisting of 56 parts and weighing only 0.663 grams, is visible at 6 o’clock. This approach allowed IWC’s engineers to reduce the weight of the movement as much as possible, maximising the performance of the shock absorber system. It also exposes the components and the BMG spring in a spectacular way. The movement features a Pellaton winding system reinforced with components made of ceramic. Using movements of the rotor in both directions, it efficiently builds up a power reserve of 80 hours in the mainspring.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>CERATANIUM<sup>®</sup> CASE AND CROWN&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The case and the crown of this watch are manufactured using Ceratanium<sup>®</sup>, an innovative material that was developed by IWC and first presented in 2017. Ceratanium<sup>®</sup> is based on a special titanium alloy. The components are milled from bars and then subsequently finished and fired in a kiln. During this heat process, they assume the properties of ceramic and also obtain their dark metallic finish. As a result, parts made of Ceratanium® are as light and unbreakable as titanium, while at the same time being similarly hard and scratch-resistant as ceramic. The Ceratanium<sup>®</sup> case features distinctive rubber bumpers on both sides. This highly complex and futuristic Big Pilot’s Watch is f itted with a black rubber strap with a technical pattern, complete with a Ceratanium<sup>®</sup> pin buckle.</p>]]></description><pp:quotes><pp:quote>

The limited edition of the Ingenieur Automatic 40 with a green dial is inspired from the bespoke watch worn by the main character Sonny Hayes in the movie. In addition, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer presents three new chronographs in its Pilot’s Watches collection. They feature a design with colour codes and details inspired by the team colours and race cars of “APXGP”, the fictional team at the heart of the movie.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Formula 1 combines cutting-edge engineering with exhilarating action on the racetrack. The globally popular sport will take centre stage in Apple Original Films’ upcoming <i>F1 </i>– set for release in cinemas and IMAX this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. It is directed and produced by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, famed Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, the film’s star Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Garner and Chad Oman. It stars Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former racing driver, who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris’ character Joshua Pearce as his younger team mate on “APXGP”, a fictional team on the grid. Other cast members include Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem. Ehren Kruger wrote the screenplay, and the film was executive produced by Daniel Lupi.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A LIMITED EDITION INGENIEUR AUTOMATIC 40 WITH A GREEN DIAL&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">In the movie, Sonny Hayes will be wearing a bespoke watch based on the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, with a striking green dial, representing his signature green colour. This prop watch is the result of a collaboration between IWC Schaffhausen and Cloister Watch Company, a design studio that specialises in creating bespoke timepieces from vintage watches. The bespoke movie watch has now served as the inspiration for a special edition of the <strong>Ingenieur Automatic 40 </strong>(Ref. IW328908), with a stainless steel case and bracelet. Limited to 1000&nbsp;pieces, it features a “Grid”-patterned green dial with gold-plated appliques – a similar colour code and combination that is worn by Hayes in the movie. The golden hands and the gold-coated metal markers are filled with Super-LumiNova<sup>®</sup>, ensuring perfect legibility. A hallmark design feature of the Ingenieur is the characteristic bezel, which is secured to the case ring with five functional screws. Offering exceptional wearing comfort, the integrated bracelet with a butterfly folding clasp attaches to the case via its middle links. The Ingenieur Automatic 40 is powered by the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre movement with a power reserve of 120 hours and 10&nbsp;bar water resistance. In keeping with the tradition of the Ingenieur, a soft-iron inner case effectively shields the movement against the effects of magnetic fields.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>CHRONOGRAPHS CELEBRATE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MOVIE </strong><i><strong>F1</strong></i></p><p style="text-align:justify;">IWC Schaffhausen will appear as one of the official sponsors of the fictional “APXGP” team in the movie, with its branding being visible on the race cars, the driver’s race suits and helmets, the team uniforms, as well as in the garage. Watches from IWC’s Pilot’s Watches collection will be worn by different characters in the film, and will also be featured as the official team watches. To celebrate the partnership with the movie <i>F1</i>, IWC Schaffhausen now adds three “APXGP”-inspired chronographs to its Pilot’s Watches collection. The <strong>Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41</strong> (Ref. IW388309) features an 18-carat 5N gold case with sapphire case back, black lacquered dial and a black ceramic tachymeter bezel. It will be worn on the wrist of Damson Idris’ character Joshua Pearce. The case, pushers and crown crafted from 18-carat 5N gold are combined with gold appliques and gold-plated hands f illed with white Super-LumiNova<sup>®</sup>. The black dial with a lacquer finish is the result of a highly engineered production process, with the totalisers at 3, 6 and 9&nbsp;o’clock being individually finished and printed. Polished by hand, the gold-plated appliques for the indices, numerals and characteristic triangle at 12 o’clock are fixed to the dial and filled with Super-LumiNova<sup>®</sup>. The Performance Chronograph 41 is fitted with a black rubber strap with integrated EasX-CHANGE<sup>®</sup> strap change system.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The <strong>Pilot’s Watch Chronograph APXGP</strong> (Ref. IW378009) features a stainless steel case with a diameter of 43&nbsp;millimetres, while the <strong>Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 APXGP</strong> (Ref. IW388116) is housed in a 41-millimetre stainless steel case. Both chronographs are dedicated to the “APXGP” team. Their design with black, gold and white elements is a reference to the team’s colours. The stainless steel cases are combined with black dials, which are printed with white numerals and golden minute markers. The minute and hour hands and the hands in the subdials are gold-plated and filled with white Super-LumiNova<sup>®</sup>. Both chronographs are equipped with tinted sapphire case backs, featuring the “APXGP” team logo printed in gold. Water resistant to 10 bar, these chronographs are fitted with black rubber straps featuring a special laser engraving to commemorate the “APXGP” team. Engineered with a focus on performance, reliability and precision, this mechanical chronograph movement in a classic column-wheel design enables the wearer to accurately measure stop times of up to 12 hours. This watch combines a case and bracelet made of Ceratanium<sup>®</sup>, a black ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale and a black dial with a hammered texture. The perpetual calendar displays the date and the month in digital format using large gold-coloured discs. The watch is powered by the IWC-manufactured 89802 calibre with a power reserve of 68 hours. Visible through a tinted sapphire glass case back, this highly engineered mechanical movement consists of 474 individual parts and also drives a chronograph function.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">In 2023, IWC Schaffhausen presented the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41, its first chronograph with a ceramic bezel featuring a tachymeter scale. This year, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer complements the collection with the first Performance Chronograph featuring a perpetual calendar.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The <strong>Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month</strong> (Ref. IW388801) impresses with a technical all-black design execution in Ceratanium®. The case, pushers, crown and bracelet are all made of this IWC-developed material. Based on a special titanium alloy that is forged to IWC’s stringent specifications, Ceratanium<sup>®</sup> combines the lightness and structural integrity of titanium with a hardness and scratch-resistance similar to ceramic. The case and bracelet components are machined from bars and then fired at high temperatures in a kiln. During this heat process, they obtain ceramic properties and also their matt black finish. The bezel is made of polished black ceramic and features a tachymeter scale. In combination with the chronograph, it lets the wearer determine the average speed over a reference distance of one kilometre. The black dial with a hammered effect is manufactured in a complex process and represents a masterpiece of craftsmanship and finishing. The subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock with openings for the date and month discs feature a circular technical structure. The black indices and hands are filled with Super-LumiNova<sup>®</sup> to ensure perfect legibility.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A DIGITAL VERSION OF THE PERPETUAL CALENDAR&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The perpetual calendar displays the date and the month with the help of large golden discs at 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock. These displays take inspiration from IWC’s emblematic Pallweber pocket watches from the 1880s, which displayed the hours and minutes in a digital format using single digits. The mechanisms driving these display discs is highly complex. While the advance wheel for the single-digit and tens disc advances daily, a little energy is stored away every night. This energy is then discharged precisely at the end of a month or the year when, in addition to the date and month discs, the leap year disc at 6 o’clock also needs to be moved forward. The perpetual calendar recognises the different lengths of the months and adds a leap day every four years at the end of February. The combination of “29” and “02” will, therefore, appear only once every four years on the dial. Despite the complexity with four discs, the calendar can be set using only the crown.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Powering this watch is the IWC-manufactured 89802 calibre, a high-end mechanical movement assembled from 474 individual components. The movement also drives a chronograph function. The stopped hours and minutes are displayed combined in a totaliser at 12 o’clock. A highly efficient double-pawl winding system builds up a power reserve of 68 hours in the mainspring. This engineered and complex movement can be observed through the tinted sapphire glass case back. IW344903) features a stainless steel case with a diameter of 41 millimetres. The proportions of each case component have been reworked and adapted to accommodate the perpetual calendar movement while offering perfect ergonomics. Seamlessly integrated into the case via a middle-link attachment, the H-link bracelet with a butterfly clasp ensures high wearing comfort. The characteristic bezel, a hallmark feature of Gérald Genta’s design, is secured to the case with five functional screws. The detailed finishing further accentuates the sculptural quality and timelessness of the Ingenieur design. The case, bezel and crown protection feature a combination of satin-finished and polished surfaces. The H-links of the bracelet are satin-finished with polished outer edges, while the middle links are polished. The case back ring, which encloses the sapphire glass case back, is polished.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A COMPLEX DIAL WITH “GRID” STRUCTURE AND THREE COUNTERS&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Another highlight is the dial, which is manufactured in a highly complex process. In a first step, the characteristic “Grid” and the subdials are applied to the dial base. Consisting of small lines and squares, this unique structure adds additional depth to the dial and reflects the light exquisitely. The counters are treated with a sunray finish, while the outer edges feature a refined azurage. After colouring, the subdials are pad-printed with the calendar display information. The single moon disc, which is visible in the subdial at 6 o’clock, features an intricate azurage finish. Finally, the metal markers are filled with Super-LumiNova<sup>®</sup> and applied individually by hand. The rhodium-plated hours and minutes hands are also filled with luminescent material.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>PERPETUAL CALENDAR WITH HIGH-PRECISION MOON PHASE&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The three perpetual calendar subdials have been carefully integrated into the Ingenieur dial to create a balanced layout. The calendar information is displayed at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock. The subdial at the 3 o’clock position indicates the date, while the one at 6 o’clock combines the month with the perpetual moon phase. Thanks to a reduction gear train using two intermediate wheels, the moon phase display will only deviate by one day after 577.5 years. In addition to showing the day of the week, the subdial at 9 o’clock features a small leap year indicator, which counts down the years to the next leap year. In case of a leap year, the calendar will automatically insert a 29<sup>th</sup> day at the end of February. All these displays are perfectly synchronised with each other and can be advanced simply by turning the crown.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>PELLATON WINDING SYSTEM WITH CERAMIC COMPONENTS&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 is powered by the IWC-manufactured 82600 calibre. The automatic Pellaton winding system uses movements of the oscillating mass in both directions to efficiently convert movements on the wearer’s arm into potential energy for the mainspring, thereby building up a power reserve of 60 hours. Components that are subject to high stress are made of virtually wear-free zirconium oxide ceramic, one of the hardest materials on Earth. One model is crafted from 18-carat 5N gold featuring a gold-coloured dial, while two come in stainless steel with either a black or a silver-plated dial. The new Ingenieur Automatic 35 offers the same enhanced ergonomics and highly detailed finishing as the 40-millimetre version.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">In 2023, IWC Schaffhausen introduced the Ingenieur Automatic 40; a luxury sports watch with an integrated bracelet revisiting the emblematic design of Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, from the 1970s. This year, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer extends the collection with the Ingenieur Automatic 35. This new and more compact automatic model has a case diameter of 35 millimetres and a thickness of just 9.44 millimetres.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The <strong>Ingenieur Automatic 35</strong> is available in three versions. One model features an 18-carat 5N gold case and bracelet, completed with a gold-coloured dial (Ref. IW324903). Two models feature a stainless steel case and bracelet. The first one has a silver-plated dial (Ref. IW324901), the second one a black dial (Ref. IW324906).</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>ENHANCED ERGONOMICS AND HIGH-END FINISHING</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Despite its more compact size, the Ingenieur Automatic 35 features all the characteristic design cues of the IWC Ingenieur. Among these are the bezel with five functional screws, the integrated bracelet attaching via its middle links and the “Grid” dial with applied indices. Designers and engineers worked hand-in-hand to define, proportion and finish every part and characteristic of the Ingenieur faithfully to a 35-millimetre case size. The result offers the instantly recognisable look and feel of the Ingenieur in a smaller and flatter execution with perfect ergonomics and wearing comfort.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Just as the 40-millimetre version, the Ingenieur Automatic 35 impresses with its highly detailed finishing. The three new models are finished with a combination of satinf inished and polished surfaces, adding texture and reflecting the light beautifully. Secured to the case ring with five functional screws, the bezel is satin-finished with a polished outer edge. For this reason, IWC reverted to another friend of the brand – Academy Award<sup>®</sup>-winning music composer Hans Zimmer. He has not only scored some of the most important milestones in the history of cinema but is also known for his “engineered” approach to composing music. Among other things, this is underscored by his role as a pioneer in the domains of using synthesizsers and sampling to create and capture unique sounds. IWC called on Hans Zimmer to compose music inspired by the signature dial colours in the new Portugieser collection. While working on the compositions, Hans&nbsp;Zimmer was brought together with Brian Cox to exchange concepts and ideas. The unlikely pair exchanged thoughts on the Portugieser Eternal Calendar and discussed some key concepts inherent to art and science. The unique perspectives shared by Brian Cox as a scientist inspired Hans Zimmer while creating his music. The result of this collaboration is a unique masterpiece of music. While representing Silver Moon, Horizon Blue, Dune and Obsidian, it also reflects the timeless nature of the Portugieser and this year’s theme, “A Tribute to Eternity.”&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">“As an artist, I always seek inspiration to take me to unexpected places and give my work new directions. The movements of the sun, the moon and the stars gave us an intuitive way of understanding and measuring time, leading to the development of our time scale and our calendars. The eternal cycle of day and night has inspired IWC to create four unique new colours: Horizon Blue, Dune, Obsidian and Silver Moon. <strong>Horizon Blue</strong> is a light blue shade with an exceptional lightness and clarity. It is inspired by the early afternoon sky when the sun bathes the world in a bright, clear light. The unique atmosphere of early evening with the golden glow of the setting sun inspired the new dial colour <strong>Dune</strong>. The design code <strong>Obsidian</strong>, with black dials and gold-plated hands and gold appliques, stands for the night sky and the golden city lights. <strong>Silver Moon</strong>, finally, reflects the whitish shimmer of sunlight reflected from the moon’s surface. They are crafted in a complex process comprising 60 individual steps, including the application of 15 layers of transparent lacquer, which is f ine-ground and then polished to a high gloss finish.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A MODERNIST EXHIBITION PAVILLION BATHED IN COLOURS</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">To reflect the timelessness that distinguished the Portugieser, the IWC booth at Watches and Wonders is inspired by the modernist era in architecture. Designed as an open and transparent exhibition pavilion, it takes up elements which can also be found in IWC’s Manufakturzentrum in Schaffhausen. With various water elements, the booth also recalls the unique location on the banks of the river Rhine where IWC was established more than 150 years ago. During different times of the day, the booth will be immersed in the new signature colours Horizon Blue, Dune, Obsidian and Silver Moon – creating distinctive atmospheres and moods for visitors to experience. IW505701) is the first secular perpetual calendar developed by IWC Schaffhausen. It automatically recognises the different lengths of the months and adds a leap day every four years at the end of February. While a perpetual calendar is programmed for a four year cycle, the Portugieser Eternal Calendar goes one step further: thanks to a new 400-year gear, it also considers the Gregorian calendar’s leap year exceptions by skipping three leap years over 400 years. IW5037) features a completely re-engineered case construction with a slimmer casing ring. Box-shaped glasses on the front and back showcase the intricately crafted dials and the IWC-manufactured 52616 calibre, which features a Pellaton winding system with ceramic components and offers a power reserve of seven days. Four versions are available in 18-carat white gold or 18-carat Armor Gold® with either Horizon Blue, Dune, Obsidian or Silver Moon dials.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The new <strong>Portugieser Automatic 42</strong> (Ref. IW5017) impresses with a new case construction with a slimmer casing ring and double box-glass sapphire crystals. Available in six new versions in 18-carat white gold, 18-carat 5N gold or stainless steel, the Portugieser Automatic 42 is a classic instrument dress watch that retains the DNA of the original Portugieser Automatic from 2000.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The <strong>Portugieser Automatic 40</strong> (Ref. IW503703) features an 18-carat white gold case, a Horizon Blue dial, and rhodium-plated hands and appliques. It is fitted with a gradient light-blue calfskin strap from Santoni. The <strong>Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44</strong> (Ref. IW503704) has an 18-carat white gold case, a Dune coloured dial, and gold-plated hands, and gold appliques. It is combined with a black alligator leather strap from Santoni. The <strong>Portugieser Perpetual Calendar </strong>44 (Ref. IW503702) boasts a case made of 18-carat Armor Gold<sup>®</sup>, an Obsidian black dial, gold-plated hands, and gold appliques. Thanks to an improved microstructure, Armor Gold<sup>®</sup> is considerably harder and more wearresistant than conventional 5N gold. This model is fitted with a black alligator leather strap from Santoni. The <strong>Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44 </strong>(Ref. IW503701) impresses with an 18-carat Armor Gold<sup>®</sup> case, a Silver Moon dial, gold-plated hands, and gold appliques. This fourth timepiece is fitted with a brown alligator leather strap from Santoni.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>COMPLETELY REWORKED CASE CONSTRUCTION WITH DOUBLE-BOX SAPPHIRE CRYSTALS AND NEW DIAL FINISH&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The most notable design change is the completely redesigned and refined case construction. The slimmer case ring features a more slender side profile. In combination with the box-glass sapphire crystals on the front and the back, this new construction makes the watches particularly light and elegant. The boxglass sapphire crystal, milled and polished in a highly complex process, allows for an even better view of the iconic Portugieser design cues, such as the characteristic minute scale. The dial graphics have also been carefully reworked and refined. A particular highlight is the elaborately crafted dials. The key to their extraordinary visual depths is the application of 15 layers of transparent lacquer, which is fine-ground and then polished to a high gloss finish. The subdials displaying the calendar information are milled into both the brass base and the lacquer layer. Finally, the appliques are individually mounted on the dials by hand. Comprising up to 60 individual steps, the production process for the dials is incredibly complex and challenging to master.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">All four watches feature IWC’s signature Double Moon™ display. Inspired by nautical instruments, it shows the moon as it can be seen from the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Thanks to a precisely calculated reduction gear, the indication will only deviate from the moon’s actual orbit by one day after 577.5 years.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The watches are powered by the IWC-manufactured 52616 calibre movement, which is assembled from 385 individual parts. The escapement has been improved to offer better protection against magnetic fields. The automatic Pellaton winding system features components made of virtually wear-free zirconium oxide ceramic, while the oscillating mass is made of solid gold. Converting the movements on the wearer’s arm into energy for the mainspring, it reliably builds up a power reserve of 7 days in two barrels.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>THE PERPETUAL CALENDAR WAS A MILESTONE FOR IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The introduction of the perpetual calendar in 1985 marked the beginning of IWC Schaffhausen’s comprehensive expertise in mechanical calendar complications. Kurt Klaus created a complication that is remarkable in many respects. All its displays are perfectly synchronised with each other and can be easily advanced via the crown. The calendar comprises only 81 parts, all housed in a module that is 1.5 millimetres high. With its ingeniously simple design, the complication perfectly embodies IWC Schaffhausen’s engineering approach to fine watchmaking, characterised by functionality, efficiency, and ease of use. The calendar is mechanically programmed for a cycle of four years. In addition to recognising the different lengths of the months, it automatically inserts a leap day every four years at the end of February. The new dial colours, Horizon Blue, Obsidian and Dune capture the unique atmospheres of different times of day and night. The first watch features a Horizon Blue dial in combination with an 18-carat white gold case and a blue calfskin strap. The second boasts an Obsidian dial, an 18-carat 5N gold case, and a black alligator leather strap. The third impresses with a Dune coloured dial, a stainless steel case, and a black alligator leather strap. The models are powered by the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre, a robust mechanical chronograph movement in classic column-wheel design.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">With the Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante from 1995, the chronograph arrived in the Portugieser family. Since then, this functional complication has brought a touch of sporty elegance to the collection. The IWC-typical vertical arrangement of the sub-dials places the stopped minutes directly at 12 o’clock, making them easy to read, while the small seconds are positioned at 6 o’clock. Another distinguishing design feature is the inner flange printed with a quarter-second scale, enabling high-precision stop-time readings. IWC Schaffhausen now launches three new versions of the popular chronograph in the new colour codes Horizon&nbsp;Blue, Obsidian, and Dune.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">A particular highlight is the intricately crafted dials. The brass bases are first given a sunburst finish before the respective colour is applied. In the next step, 15&nbsp;layers of transparent lacquer are applied, fine-ground and then polished to a high gloss. The totalisers are milled into both the brass base and the lacquer layer. The printing, carried out through a special process, further adds to the three-dimensional effect. Finally, the appliques are mounted individually by hand. The complete manufacturing process for these dials comprises more than 60 steps and is highly challenging to master.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The <strong>Portugieser Chronograph </strong>(Ref. IW371626) features a Horizon Blue dial. Horizon is a light blue shade, reminiscent of the early afternoon sky during the sun-soaked height of the day. This colour is complemented by a polished and brushed 18-carat white gold case, rhodium-plated hands and appliques, and a gradient light-blue calfskin strap from Santoni.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The <strong>Portugieser Chronograph</strong> (Ref. IW371625) impresses with its Obsidian black dial, an 18-carat 5N gold case, gold-plated hands, and gold appliques. Thanks to the lacquer finish, the dial emanates an incredible depth. The combination of black and gold captures the black of the night and the golden warmth of the city lights at night. The chronograph is fitted with a black alligator leather strap from Santoni.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The <strong>Portugieser Chronograph </strong>(Ref. IW371624) with a Dune dial is paired with a stainless steel case, gold-plated hands and gold appliques, and a black alligator leather strap. This combination reflects the mood in the late afternoon with the golden low sun. Thanks to the elaborate lacquer finish, the gold appliques appear to be floating above the dial.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>ROBUST AND RELIABLE CHRONOGRAPH MOVEMENT&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Portugieser Chronograph is powered by the IWCmanufactured 69355 calibre, a mechanical chronograph movement engineered with a focus on robustness, reliability, and longevity. The column-wheel control of the chronograph function ensures that individual phases in the switching sequence are clearly defined. There is also a distinct tactile resistance when the buttons are pushed. Seamless integration with the basic movement and careful coordination of all components helps to ensure that the correct rates are maintained even when the chronograph is subject to intense use. Typical for IWC, the vertical arrangement of the subdials displays the stopped minutes directly at the 12 o’clock position and places the small seconds at 6 o’clock. The Olympian, fashion model and full-time student joined the IWC family in August 2021.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">During her trip to Schaffhausen, Gu had the opportunity to experience the watchmaking process firsthand during a tour of the manufacture and had lunch overlooking the world-famous Rhine Falls. IWC Chief Marketing Officer Franziska Gsell was on hand to accompany Gu during the visit, which followed the Olympic medallist’s debut appearance at the Watches and Wonders show on Wednesday.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">“I am thrilled to join IWC Schaffhausen on home ground this week,” explained Gu. “It has been so interesting to experience the reality behind the legendary ‘Made in Schaffhausen’ pledge. Seeing the watchmakers’ passion and expertise as they carefully craft each watch has been amazing. I also enjoyed visiting the Rhine Falls and hearing how its waters powered the original factory, a fascinating foreshadowing of the sustainable ethos driving IWC today.”&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">IWC has produced mechanical watches in Schaffhausen since 1868 and opened a new manufacture in the Swiss city in 2018 to mark its 150th anniversary. A groundbreaking facility, the IWC Manufakturzentrum combines component production, case-making and movement assembly all under one roof. Organised in sequential steps, the process from raw materials to finished watch movements and cases can be experienced up close with transparency.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">At Schaffhausen, Gu wore the recently-released Portofino Perpetual Calendar (Ref. IW344602). Launched in November 2022, it is the first time a perpetual calendar has featured in the Portofino collection in decades. At just 40 millimetres, it is also the smallest version of the complication in IWC‘s portfolio. Gu‘s 5N Gold version has a silver-plated dial, gold-plated hands and appliques and a soft, blue calfskin leather strap. It is powered by the IWC-manufactured 82650 calibre movement and will run without adjustment until 2100.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>ABOUT EILEEN GU</strong><br>Born in 2003, Eileen Gu is a champion freestyle skier, a successful fashion model and a student at the prestigious Stanford University. It is the first time Gu, an IWC &nbsp;Friend of the Brand since 2021, has attended the leading watch fair, which runs until April 2nd.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">During her visit, Gu toured IWC’s booth, which this year has a retro-futuristic look dedicated to the latest reimagining of the Ingenieur watch. First developed in the 1950s as a homage to technical ingenuity, the Ingenieur collection is characterised by the Swiss luxury watchmaker’s passion for engineering, material innovation and style. The new editions are inspired by Gérald Genta’s design from the 1970s, considered one of the most iconic steel sports watches ever created.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">After CEO Christoph Grainger-Herr welcomed her, Gu was handed an ‘Ingenieur coat’, similar to the lab jackets worn by IWC’s watchmakers, in a symbolic nod to the brand’s engineering know-how. The Olympic medallist was then taken on a tour where she had the opportunity to learn more about the new Ingenieur editions and the ‘FORM UND TECHNIK’ premise of the booth and campaign. She was also presented with some of IWC’s newest chronographs from the Pilot’s Watches, Portugieser and Portofino collections..<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">“It’s incredible to be here at Watches and Wonders in Geneva with IWC today,” explained Gu. “The design of the booth is so impressive, and to have the chance to see and touch all the new watches has been super interesting. In addition, absorbing the Ingenieur story this way has given me an even greater understanding of the collection’s meticulous engineering and astonishing technicality.”</p><p style="text-align:justify;">During the event, Gu wore the Portofino Automatic Day & Night 34 (Ref. IW659802). Featuring a luxurious 18 carat 5n gold case decorated with 66 light-reflecting diamonds, a silver-plated dial and a taupe calfskin leather strap, the design is a declaration of understated femininity. Moreover, it is the first 34-millimetre Portofino to feature IWC’s intricate day & night complication. This newly engineered automatic model reflects the bold aesthetic codes of Gérald&nbsp; Genta’s Ingenieur&nbsp; SL, Reference 1832, from the 1970s while meeting the highest standards regarding ergonomics, finishing, and technology. The collection encompasses three references in stainless steel and one in titanium. The Ingenieur Automatic&nbsp;40 is powered by the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre with a power reserve of 120 hours. All new models feature soft-iron inner cases to protect the movements from magnetic fields and are water-resistant to 10 bar, making them fully versatile sports watches for the 21st century.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">In the 1970s, IWC Schaffhausen commissioned the renowned Geneva watch designer Gérald&nbsp; Genta to redesign the Ingenieur. The Ingenieur had originally been introduced in 1955. With the first automatic movement developed in Schaffhausen and a soft-iron inner case for magnetic field protection, this watch marked a technical milestone for IWC – also evident in the name Ingenieur, the word used in German and French for Engineer. With his unique artistic signature, Genta succeeded in giving the Ingenieur a new, highly distinctive visual identity. His Ingenieur&nbsp;SL, launched in 1976 as the talking piece of IWC’s SL collection of steel luxury watches, featured bold aesthetic codes such as a screw-on bezel with five recesses, a dial with a unique pattern, and an integrated H-link bracelet. With its innovative and disruptive design, the Ingenieur&nbsp;SL was ahead of its time. Today, Gérald&nbsp;Genta’s creation is a collector’s favourite and one of the most sought-after models from the history of IWC.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>ENHANCED ERGONOMICS AND WEARABILITY&nbsp;</strong><br>The overall dimensions of the case have been carefully reworked and improved down to the smallest detail. The lug-to-lug distance of 45.7 millimetres ensures perfect ergonomics and excellent wearability, even on a slender wrist. While the Ingenieur&nbsp;SL from the 1970s had nose-shaped horns, the new Ingenieur Automatic&nbsp; 40 features a newly engineered middle-link attachment. Aesthetically similar to the Ingenieur&nbsp;SL, this new solution enhances the ergonomics and provides an even better fit on the wrist. The curved casing ring further improves the ergonomics of the case.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>FUNCTIONAL SCREWS AND “GRID” DIAL&nbsp;</strong><br>One of the most striking changes of the new model is the introduction of functional, polygonal screws on its bezel. For the Ingenieur&nbsp; SL, a bezel with five recesses was screwed onto the case ring. As a result, the recesses ended up in a different position on each watch. With the Ingenieur Automatic&nbsp; 40, five screws secure the bezel to the case. The screws now have a technical function and, as a result, are always in the same position. In addition, the dial features a distinctive “Grid” structure, creating a balance to the technical and very sculptural case design. Consisting of small lines offset by 90 degrees to each other, it is stamped into the soft iron blank before it is galvanised. Finally, appliques with luminescence add additional depth and ensure easy legibility, even at night.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>HIGH LEVEL OF DETAIL AND FINISHING</strong><br>The Ingenieur Automatic&nbsp;40 features an astonishingly high level of detail and finishing. The case, bezel, and bracelet are elaborately finished using a combination of polished and satin-finished surfaces. The upper parts of the bracelet contain closed links without pins, accentuating the outstanding craftsmanship. The integration of an elaborately finished butterfly folding clasp highlights the beauty and thinness of the H-link bracelet. In addition, a newly designed crown protection further underscores the sporty character of the timepiece.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY&nbsp;</strong><br>The Ingenieur Automatic&nbsp; 40 is powered by the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre with an automatic pawl winding system and a power reserve of 120 hours. In keeping with the tradition of the Ingenieur, a soft-iron inner case efficiently protects the movement from the effects of magnetic fields on its accuracy. Moreover, the case is water-resistant to 10 bar, making the Ingenieur Automatic&nbsp;40 a modern and fully versatile sports watch. By using the German words for ‘form and technology’, IWC is not only referring to its roots in the German-speaking part of Switzerland but also hints at a specific period in German industrial design with a progressive and technical character.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>THE INGENIEUR EMERGES FROM A STEEL PLATE</strong><br>In line with this functional approach to design, the Ingenieur Automatic 40 is presented in a reduced, technical way. The collection is integrated into a large steel plate, allowing visitors to admire the sculptural beauty of the watches and learn more about their intricate manufacturing process. The history of IWC’s first antimagnetic wristwatch for civilian use can also be discovered in an exhibition, showing the evolution of this watch family from 1976 to 2013. The new Ingenieur can even be experienced in the Metaverse. In a newly designed Ingenieur space, members of the IWC Diamond Hand Club will have the opportunity learn more about the development of this timepiece from IWC’s specialists first-hand.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>NEWLY FOUND ORIGINAL DRAWING OF THE INGENIEUR SL&nbsp;</strong><br>Also in Geneva, Gérald Genta’s original hand painted drawing of the Ingenieur SL is presented to the public for the first time. The watercolour painting was thought to have been lost but was recently discovered by IWC museum curator David Seyffer and his team. The artwork features many distinguishable characteristics of an original Gérald Genta design – from the paper and the scale to the shading and the octagonal crown. Its authenticity was investigated and officially certified by the Gérald Genta Heritage Association.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>MERCEDES-BENZ C 111-III AS A VISUAL HIGHLIGHT</strong><br>A visual highlight of the booth is the Mercedes-Benz C 111-III. This vehicle was part of a series of experimental cars produced in the 1970s to test new engines and materials. A perfect example of “form follows function” engineering, its body was rigorously designed with the aim of optimising aerodynamics. With its strong focus on functionality and technical detailing, the concept car is emblematic of the respective design trend of the 1970s.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>LOUNGE AREA WITH FURNITURE FROM VITRA</strong><br>In the lounge area, visitors can relax on iconic furniture like the Lobby Chair ES104 from Charles and Ray Eames, provided by Vitra, a Swiss furniture company. Charles and Ray Eames are amongst the most important figures of 20th-century design. Since 1957, Vitra has been the only authorised manufacturer of their products for Europe and the Middle East. Typical for the designer duo’s work is the combination of functional design with an appreciation for detail. This approach is also reflected in the new Ingenieur, which features an astonishing level of detail and quality in processing and finishing.<br>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>IWC IS “THE REFERENCE” FOR CHRONOGRAPHS</strong><br>The booth also offers an in-depth look at IWC’s chronographs. The heritage of IWC is deeply rooted in professional watches, distinguished by their robustness and accuracy. For over 40 years, this legacy has also driven the company to manufacture chronographs that are among the best the industry has to offer. An uncompromising approach to performance, functionality and quality has made IWC “The Reference” in mechanical chronographs. In Geneva, IWC exhibits chronographs from the Pilot’s Watches, Portugieser and Portofino collections. All of them feature IWC-manufactured movements from the 69000 calibre family, engineered with a focus on robustness, precision, and durability. During the third event, titled “The IWC Colors”, Christian Knoop, IWC Chief Design Officer, and Carola Seybold, Head of Global Key Accounts at PANTONE® talked about the language of color, the function of color in watch design, and how the Pantone Color Institute supported IWC’s creative specialists as they created new chronographs in colored ceramic.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">In 1963, PANTONE® revolutionized the printing industry by creating an international language of color that would enable those working in the global printing industry to select and communicate color with accuracy. Today, PANTONE® offers a range of different physical and digital color language standards, supporting industries including textiles, apparel, beauty, interiors, architecture, and industrial design to achieve consistent reproduction of color anywhere in the world.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>THE ROLE OF COLORS IN WATCH DESIGN</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“The colors we wear and the colors we surround ourselves with reflect who we are and how we want others to perceive us,” said Laurie Pressman, Vice-President, Pantone Color Institute. “Consumers are increasingly comfortable with color and in our highly visual world look to color to help them create a unique statement that expresses their individualized style.”</p><p style="text-align:justify;">After giving a general introduction into the history of PANTONE’s color standards products, Carola Seybold talked about how people all perceive color differently, and which factors influence their perception. Christian Knoop then elaborated on the role of IWC as a pioneer of colored ceramic watches, recalling how the brand had launched its first watches in white or green ceramic as early as in the 1980s. The engineering ceramic used to produce watch cases consists of zirconium oxide, which is mixed with other metallic oxides, shaped and then sintered at high temperatures in a kiln. This high-tech material is characterized by its extreme hardness and scratch-resistance. It is virtually wear-free and one of the most durable and long-lasting materials on earth.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Christian Knoop then explained in detail the creative journey that led to the development of the new ceramic colors “IWC Woodland” and “IWC Lake Tahoe.” He explained how IWC’s creative specialists had been inspired by the fascinating landscapes TOP GUN pilots use as training grounds, and how they concretized their inspiration with Pantone’s language of color, seamlessly integrating it into the process of engineering new ceramic colors and adapting all the other components of the watches to these new shades. Knoop also explained the difficulties involved in producing colored ceramic, from finding the right mixture of raw materials to fine-tuning the complex manufacturing process to achieving perfect quality and color consistency. IWC’s Chief Design Officer also revealed that Pantone’s color standards products form the foundation for all creative work by the IWC creative team, underscoring the importance of these tools.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>HOW PANTONE COLOR INSTITUTE ACCOMPANIED IWC ON THEIR JOURNEY</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“With about 80% of human experience filtered through our eyes, the first challenge is to grab the eye, and nothing does that better than the thoughtful use of color,” Laurie Pressman, Vice-President Pantone Color Institute explained. “Color is the first thing we see and the first thing we connect to, influencing up to 85% of product purchasing decisions which is why the use of color for product and how brands put their color themes and stories together is so important.”</p><p style="text-align:justify;">As Knoop described the creative process, Seybold illustrated why the matching systems from PANTONE® are indispensable tools for creatives around the world, supporting them on their creative journey and enabling them to realize their visions. The acclaimed film music composer took inspiration from the five new ceramic colors introduced by the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer as part of its new TOP GUN Pilot’s Watches collection. Zimmer himself conducted the debut performance of the suite at an exclusive event at the Théâtre du Léman in Geneva tonight, organized to mark the Watches and Wonders exhibition. Prior to the show at the Théâtre du Léman, Hans Zimmer met with Seven-Time Formula One™ World Champion and IWC Brand Ambassador Lewis Hamilton.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Hans Zimmer has scored more than 200 projects across every medium and has been honoured with two Academy Awards®, three Golden Globes®, three Grammys®, an American Music Award, and a Tony® Award. Work highlights include the scores for Dune No Time to Die, Gladiator, The Thin Red Line, As Good as It Gets, Rain Man, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Thelma and Louise, The Last Samurai, 12 Years A Slave, Blade Runner 2049 (co-scored with Benjamin Wallfisch) and Dunkirk, as well as recent film scores including Wonder Woman 1984, Ron Howard’s Hillbilly Elegy and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. Writing music is always about telling a story and taking people to new places, whether inspired by a moving picture or a color, and this was no different.”</p><p><strong>AN ENGINEERING APPROACH TO CREATING MUSIC&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The collaboration between IWC and Zimmer is founded on shared values. Just as IWC fosters an engineering approach to watchmaking, he uses a technology-driven approach to composing music. Cutting-edge technology enables him to push the boundaries and venture into unchartered territories of sound. In his studio in Santa Monica, California, he has assembled a unique system of synthesizers and samplers, allowing him to electronically compose and arrange his music without ever writing a single note. He also travels to the most unusual places to record new samples or builds custom-made instruments for a specific purpose. What also sets Zimmer’s work apart is his collaborative approach. He works in a unique creative environment, surrounded by fellow composers and musicians. Together, they experiment with new sounds and samples and continuously challenge each other to create extraordinary new film music.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>WORLD PREMIERE IN GENEVA TONIGHT&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The debut performance of the music Zimmer created for IWC took place tonight at an exclusive event held at the Théâtre du Léman in Geneva. In a concert titled “The Sound of Color”, the band also performed major hits from the composer’s incredible career, which already spans more than four decades. IWC Schaffhausen is presenting severalnew Pilot’s Watches at the event, including the flagship IWCBig Pilot’s Watch 43, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41,the Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL, the first watchto feature the brand’s patented new shock absorbersystem, two new Top Gun models and a Big Pilot’s WatchPerpetual Calendar. Chinese media, retailers and clientshave the opportunity to see the latest watches in personand take a closer look at each of the designs, which are allfitted with IWC-manufactured calibres.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>DISCOVER THE LATEST IWC EDITIONS FIRST HAND</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">A faithful interpretation of an iconic observation watch design, the new IWC Big Pilot’s Watch 43 features an ergonomic 43-millimetre stainless steel case. Available with either a black or blue dial, it is powered by the IWC-manufactured 82100 calibre with Pellaton winding, which is visible through a sapphire glass back. The user-friendly EasX-CHANGE strap system, as well as the comprehensive calf leather and rubber strap and stainless steel bracelet options, establishes the Big Pilot’sWatch 43 as a quintessential modern utility sports watch, ready for adventures in the air, on land and by water.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">IWC is further demonstrating its high-tech capability and craftsmanship by showcasing several other exciting new timepieces at the event. The IWC Pilot’s Chronograph 41 in an ergonomic 41-millimetre case, powered by the IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre, represents the brand’s chronograph expertise.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The specially formulated sand-coloured ceramic, used for the case on both models of the Big Pilot’s Watch Top Gun Mojave Desert Edition, is one of the hardest materials on the planet and demonstrates the brand’s know-how in&nbsp;materials.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">IWC’s legendary perpetual calendar, developed in the 1980s by Kurt Klaus, IWC’s former head watchmaker, is showcased too, as it powers the new Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar. It works alongside the IWC manufactured 52615 calibre and features a Pellaton winding system fitted with ceramic components.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Guests can also take a closer look at IWC’s new Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL, which is the first watch to feature the brand’s patented new shock absorber system. Developed over eight years, the SPRIN-g PROTECT system is based on a cantileverspring that suspends the movement inside the case. Thanks to its perfect form and the use of Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG), the spring protects the movement against the g-forces generated during impacts on the watch.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>TELLING THE BIG PILOT’S STORY: FROM FUNCTIONALITY TO CULTURAL ICON</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Over the last 85 years, the classic Big Pilot’s Watch design has evolved from a functional aviation watch into a cultural icon, inspiring creators from many fields, including the arts, fashion, photography and design. With the launch of so many innovative new Big Pilot’s Watch editions this year, IWC wanted to celebrate its iconic story at Watches and Wonders in a fresh and exciting way.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">To do this, the Manufacture called upon a select number of friends of the brand to feature on a ‘Talent Wall’ in their booth and tell their story of pushing boundaries and redefining the status quo. Starring in short inspirational videos, each friend of the brand shares how they made their ambitions come true and details how the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch has accompanied them as they have dreamed big on their journey to success.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Friends include: Billy Monger, a racing driver, disability campaigner and challenger; Hayden Cox, a designer and advocate for sustainable surfing; Lu Yan, a womenswear designer and sustainability campaigner; Guillaume Philibert, a streetwear brand creator; Matt Pearson, the co-founder of Airspeeder; Matt Jones, a world record breaker and IWC Longest Flight pilot; Misan Harriman, a photographer, creative director and cultural&nbsp;commentator; Mark Ong, a streetwear designer and artist; Hani Rashid, an architect and educator; Alexvi, a leading fashion and portraiture photographer; and Ye Tao, an internationally-renowned dancer and choreographer who developed the “Circular Movement System”.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A PEEK INTO THE FUTURE OF WATCHMAKING</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">IWC also wanted to showcase its engineering spirit and high-tech expertise at the event through several new technology displays. In a world-first for watch brands, IWC CEO Christoph Grainger-Herr is being ‘teleported’ directly from Schaffhausen to the Shanghai event. Thanks to innovative new hologram technology, a life-sized Grainger-Herr is appearing at Watches and Wonders, presenting the most important watch novelties of the year to an astonished audience and welcoming visitors to the booth.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">For the rest of the event, the technology is also enabling attendees to interact inreal-time with watchmakers at work in the Schaffhausen manufacturing center. Elsewhere, 3D-printed models that reveal the magic of watchmaking in even its smallest details are on show. Both mechanical movement parts and the process of creating new lighter and more resilient materials, such as titanium, steel, Ceratanium®, ceramics and bronze, are being brought to life through this innovative medium. In the Lab area of the fair, IWC is also demonstrating the innovative Cyberloupe 2.0 to those in attendance. The newly-upgraded digital watchmaker’s magnifying glass is now equipped with a completely revised design, and higher quality cameras, lenses and software that enable better and more detailed streaming quality.
